Our Story
Sankofa African Arts was conceived from the shared vision of Justice and his wife, Bethany, to connect their cultures from both ends of the world. Justice, who immigrated to the US from Ghana in 2013, and Bethany, from Vermont, USA, have always been passionate about fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. Living in Boston, MA, with their family, they decided to turn this passion into action through the medium of art.
The name “Sankofa” is derived from a word in the Akan language of Ghana, symbolizing the importance of learning from the past to build a better future. Through Sankofa African Arts, we aim to connect African makers and artists with US markets and customers, sharing the rich cultural heritage and extraordinary talents of Africa with a wider audience.
Our Mission
At Sankofa African Arts, our mission is to bridge the gap between Africa and the United States through the vibrant and unique art created by talented African artists. We believe that art has the power to connect people, tell compelling stories, and make our world feel a little smaller and more connected.
Bringing African Art to You
Our goal at Sankofa African Arts is to create opportunities for African artists to showcase their work to a broader audience. By connecting these talented individuals with art enthusiasts and collectors in the United States, we hope to foster a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage and creativity that Africa has to offer.
